New Online Version of Nonimmigrant Visa Application Required at US Consulates in Vancouver and Montreal (10/24/2008)
Effective October 22, 2008, Applicants for a Nonimmigrant
Visa at certain U.S. consulates in Canada and Mexico
will be required to complete Form DS-160, the Department
of State’s new online Nonimmigrant Visa Application,
before their appointment. Specifically, the new
form is required for nonimmigrant visa application
being processed at the following posts: Vancouver,
Canada
Montreal Canada
Monterrey, Mexico
Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
the paper Form DS-156, or the supplemental Forms
DS-157 and DS-158, will no longer be required
at these select US posts.
Form DS-160 requires nonimmigrant visa applicants
to electronically complete, sign and submit their
applications online at: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.
The completed application is then transmitted
electronically to the applicable U.S. consulate
for adjudication. Applicants using Form DS-160
will not be required to submit the paper Form
DS-156, or the supplemental Forms DS-157 and DS-158,
to the Department of State. Applicants are permitted
to have their immigration counsel assist them
in completing the electronic form, but are required
to complete the electronic signature portion themselves.
Please note that while the new DS -160 form was
introduced earlier this year as part of a pilot
program, it is expected to be phased in at other
consulates over the coming months, eventually
completely replacing Form DS-156, as well as several
other nonimmigrant visa application forms.
If you have any questions regarding the new Form
DS-160, please do not hesitate to contact our
office.
